I may be a nano-bit smarter and slightly more fearful.

I have completed the “everything you need to know about nanotechnology” workshop that the Knight Science Journalism gang was kind enough to host at MIT. I finally graduated from something.

Three observations from the week in Boston:
1.    I can’t believe how little I know.
2.    I am amazed at the potential for good and a bit uneasy at the possibility of harm from this corporate and government-driven technology.
3.    Rt. 95 in New England is a successful terrorist plot.

Only time will tell if my exposure to these brilliant scientists will make my public health writing more insightful, but it sure raised a lot of questions.

I need a day to catch up, but I offer for you a link to the gut-busting reading pleasure of a blog by Kimberly Marlowe Hartnett.

It is her photo that is in the dictionary beside “acerbic wit.” She is a gifted, take-no-prisoners, smart-mouth reporter and essayist who shares her work in various places, including her own site “Type Like The Wind.”

Here is the link to her words today on the passing of John Houghtaling, the inventor of Magic Fingers. I’ll give you a clue; she discusses a motel, a bucking mattress and an assortment of Hell’s Angels.

Enjoy it.
